THE FRIENDS OF STAVELY LIBRARY SOCIETY   

Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday Sept 7th @ 6pmHighway Cleanup is scheduled May 6th, alternate date May 13th.  For Friends members of the Society, who wish to volunteer, mark this date on your calendar.  We are in need of volunteers!

Stavely Library Board- Next regular meeting on May 30 at 7pm. 

 

BOOK CLUBNext meeting will be Thursday May 4th in the library at 7:00pm. We will be discussingThe Marsh King’s Daughter” by Karen Dione; “Straight Man” by Richard Russo and “The Last Letter from your Lover” by JoJo Moyes which were Books to Movies.  May’s theme will be Beach Reads.  They are as follows:

–- The It Girl by Ruth Ware – Mystery/Thriller

–– The House at Riverton by Kate Morton – Historical Fiction/Gothic Mystery

–  Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen – Magical Realism

If you are interested in participating, please come to our meeting to choose which book you would like to read or perhaps you can choose all of them!  Also, we will be choosing a book about Book Clubs for June.  Suggestions are welcome – New members are always welcome!

 

New – Third Lecture of the

The Plot Thickens Garden Club Lecture Series will be on Thursday, May 18th7pm

Are you interested in gaining knowledge of plants, gardens and gardening?  The Stavely Public Library is hosting the second lecture in the gardening series that will be held in the Library on Thursday, May 18th,   7pm to 9pm.  Our guest speaker is Jacquie from Randle Handles Horticulture.  Jacquie’s presentation will be discussing trees and shrub pruning, and what trees survive our chinook conditions.   Come join us for a fun and interesting evening with snacks and door prizes provided.  Cost is $10 per person.  Pre-register by email: help@stavelylibrary.ca or text # 403-682-8880.   Date and topic will be posted each month on the Library Website: www.stavelylibrary.ca; Stavely Municipal Library Facebook page, and Stavely newsletter.

The next lecture will be held on June 15th at 6:30 - 8:30pm free of charge.    Our presenter will be Kara Matthews, Horticulturist from Coutts Centre, talking about Plants, Pollinators, Pests, and Predators! Plants that grow on our prairies, Plant Roles, Common Pests, Pollinators  and Predators,  Pollination vs. Fertilization.  Also we hope to have a garden tour at the Coutts Centre in July if enough interest.   Start up will begin again in Sept.

All manner of gardeners are welcome – from pot to plot! No Library membership necessary!
